Woomargama Station has farmed poll Herefords for over 50 years. We are advocates for Herefords due to their calm temperament and because they are well-suited to our grazing pastures.

Our cattle are sourced from two local hereford studs: Injemira Poll Herefords at Book Book near Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, and from nearby Ravensdale at Holbrook.

The bulls from these studs give us excellent Estimated Breeding Values (EBVs), a genetic measure which allows us to evaluate how the calves will perform on measures such as growth rates. The EBVs are also critical measures when we come to sell our cattle as buyers can have clear measurement of our stock’s performance. Our poll hereford bulls produce good body shape, high pregnancy rates and very healthy cattle.

The welfare of our animals is of the highest importance to us and this informs every decision we make from how we manage our stock to our selling strategies. At Woomargama Station we are are constantly evaluating everything we do. We are proud to say that we don’t just meet guidelines but excel them.

We market our stock either through a computer-based system or by direct sales. This ensures that the cattle are grazing the pastures until a time when they are trucked directly to their destination. This reduces stress on the animals so that they will continue to perform and remain healthy and satisfied.
